The cult event of the Paulaner brewery!
The strong beer festival on the Nockerberg has a long tradition. The people of Munich have always made a pilgrimage during period of fasting - to enjoy the tasty Salvator beer. The strong beer was invented on the Nockherberg.
The opening for invited guests is very special. The brewing manager traditionally hands over the first "Maß" with the words "Salve pater patriae! Bibas princeps optimae!" ("Greetings father of the fatherland! Drink best prince!") The Bavarian Prime Minister gets the first Maß of Beer to try. This custom goes back to the origin of Salvator beer: In 1751, Paulaner monk and master brewer Brother Barnabas was said to be Elector Maximilian III with precisely these words.
The politician "Derblecken" follows. In a mixture of a speech, a musical theater and cabaret, actors appear as double of famours politicians. The "derblecken" also gets its appeal from the fact that many parodied politicians sit in the audience and have to make a good face into an evil joke, even if the laughing is clearly stuck in their throats.
