UEFA EURO 2020
the European Football Championship
The EM was postponed from 2020 to 2021. Nevertheless, Munich remains the host of the UEFA EURO 2020. All football fans can look forward to a major European football festival. Fortunately, nothing changes in the planned encounters. The European Championship continues to take place with four group stage games at the Allianz Arena in Munich. The German national team will play in three games. In Group F, Germany will meet France first, then Portugal and in the third round game against Hungary. Munich has thus got a “hammer group”. The DFB team has the reigning world champion and also the reigning European champion as opponents. According to the French national coach Didier Deschamps, this is the most difficult group of the pan-European UEFA EURO 2020. Since Germany (together with Spain) is record European champions with three titles each, the chances are good. National coach Löw has confidence in his team and believes he can make it to round 16. It is very nice that there will also be a quarter-finals game in Munich.
The pan-European UEFA EURO 2020 will not take place until June 11th. to 11.7.2021 (i.e. not 2020) in eleven different countries, but keeps the year 2020 in its name. This was decided by UEFA. Due to the 60th anniversary of the EM, it is taking place in more than 2 countries for the first time. Instead, it will be held in 12 countries on the continent. The hosts are England, Italy, Azerbaijan, Germany, Russia, Hungary, Romania, the Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Denmark.
Since the European Football Championship will take place in Germany in 2024, Munich has received a total privilege. Because twice in a row the European football championship is hosted in the Bavarian capital. This is the first time in football history that something like this has happened. We keep our fingers crossed for our team and of course we hope that we will bring the title to Germany. And already today we are looking forward to a successful European Championship 2024 in Germany and again here in Munich!
