WELCOME TO THE SPRING FESTIVAL
also known as the "kleine Wiesn"
The Munich Frühlingsfest, also known as the “kleine Wiesn”, takes place every year for two weeks on the Theresienwiese. It is the start of the year for all beer festivals in Bavaria. It should finally take place again in 2021. Two large beer tents and numerous rides and showmen are planned for the period from April 23 to May 9. In the two large beer tents – by Augustiner and Paulaner – beer is tapped straight from the wooden barrel. Everything is represented at rides, from novelties to classics. A visit to Munich is therefore worthwhile for young and old. A big advantage is that the Theresienwiese can be reached in 10 minutes on foot from the City Aparthotel Munich. Compared to the Oktoberfest, beer tapping was deliberately avoided in the past. This festival should “primarily serve to amuse children and young people”. In the meantime, however, the barrel is traditionally tapped at the Spring Festival. This task is incumbent on the mayor. As with the Wiesn, teams of horses, showmen and music bands move into the Theresienwiese on the first Friday. In order to celebrate the Bavarian tradition in all its diversity years later, there is the Day of Customs. For years, visitors have been offered a mix of folk dance, Schuhplattler, traditional costumes and much more. Thus, it is also a nice occasion for visitors to go to Theresienwiese in the right outfit consisting of dirndl and lederhosen. Of course, a visit to a folk festival is not a real festival without visiting beer tents. But what should definitely not be ignored, are the rides. A ride on the Ferris wheel gives you an incomparable view of the panorama of Munich. When the weather is nice, you can even see the Alps. Otherwise it is also interesting to see the crowd, beer tents and other rides from above. This not only makes children’s eyes light up.
